On October 17, 2023, an important meeting took place between Chinese President Xi Jinping and President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. The meeting between Xi Jinping and Mirziyoyev took place in the context of the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. President Xi Jinping noted the successful progress of bilateral relations highlighted by the previous meeting in Xi’an in May of the same year. Having discussed the important general agreements reached at the previous meeting, he emphasized that they are being fully implemented. Xi Jinping also emphasized the strategic importance of developing bilateral relations, noting that China strives for the status of a great modern socialist country and promotes the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
President Mirziyoyev presented the Uzbekistan-2030 strategy, expressing the similarity of goals and development ideas between Uzbekistan and China. On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative, China expressed its willingness to cooperate with Uzbekistan in building a Sino-Uzbek community with a shared future. The main emphasis is on mutual learning, interaction and support in the process of modernization of both countries, which in turn contributes to stability and prosperity in the region.
Xi Jinping emphasized the need for firm mutual support. China expressed support for Uzbekistan in protecting its sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as opposing any attempts to interfere in its internal affairs. The two sides are called upon to effectively implement medium- and long-term economic and trade plans, with special attention paid to the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project.
Additional areas of cooperation highlighted new energy and innovation initiatives, as well as plans to train Uzbek youth in China. The need for accelerated creation of cultural centers and workshops, as well as enhanced exchange of experience in poverty reduction, was emphasized.
Both sides expressed their willingness to sincerely implement the results of the China-Central Asia Summit and continue cooperation in the development of the region. Strategic cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative will continue to contribute to the sustainability and development of both countries. Mirzeev is always ready to cooperate with China for the further development of this mechanism.
