On November 29, the Colombian Football Federation announced the death of Atletico Tucuman midfielder Andres Balant. He passed away at the age of 22.
“We will always remember with pride the great contribution of the midfielder to Colombian football and the national teams of Colombia. Rest in peace,” the federation said in a statement.
According to the American sports TV channel ESPN, the football player lost consciousness during the training of his team, after which he was taken to the hospital, where he died. It is noted that doctors tried to resuscitate him for more than 40 minutes.
The official cause of death is unknown. According to media reports, he probably died of a heart attack.
Balanta has been playing for Atletico Tucuman since June 2022 on loan. The rights to the player belong to the Colombian club “Deportivo Cali”, of which he was a pupil. During his sports career, he was also a member of the Colombian youth national team.
